Getting Organized for Community Building
In October of 2017, neighborhood leaders, a HomeStart representative, and neighborhood organizers attended Neighborworks Community Leadership Institute in Los Angeles, a Neighborworks training program. Through this training participants learned about creating positive change in their community from a diverse range of courses and a diverse range of instructors. Each CLI group had the opportunity to apply for a grant to implement a community building project. Our community's CLI group helped facilitate a neighborhood cook out this past September. The goal of this cook out was to encourage connectivity and communication between neighbors in Beverly Park as well as to create a guide based on that expereince to help other neigbhorhoods plan their own community building event!
This event was supported by a $2,000 grant awarded from Neighborworks and was made possible through the great efforts of Habitat for Humanity, resident's of Beverly Park, volunteers, and various other participants!Take a look at the Guide created so more neighborhoods and community groups can organize their own community building block party!
